Then Joseph,
being awakened from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and
remained with his wife, and did not know her until she had given birth to her
firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.
Matthew 1:24-25, Modern English Version (MEV)
Whatever Joseph's true feelings were, he believed the angel and appears to have legalized his relationship with Mary as soon as it was possible. This would give credence to the thought that no one else knew about her condition, not even Mary's cousin Elizabeth seems to be aware that Mary had become pregnant before her and Joseph were properly married. The important thing is that both Mary and Joseph, whatever their ages were, believed God and acted accordingly, whether they truly understood or not. One of the most difficult lessons for most of us to learn is that belief doesn't require understanding, it requires trust. There are some things we will never be able to explain.
