In many ways, the belief that man will be able to save himself through reason, rational thinking, modern technology, etc., has become our Tower of Babel. In His wisdom, God has come to mand and basically said that none of that is going to work. There is absolutely nothing man can do to save himself. Then, as if to add insult to injury, God makes it very simple by proclaiming that all man has to do to be saved is to believe. This is almost more than man can bear.
